Looking back at the GTCC Summer Showdown

What transpired from June 11 to 15 was the biggest e-sport-style Tongits tournament in the country, with the Summer Showdown of the GameZone Tablegame Champions Cup (GTCC).

The Green Sun Hotel in Makati served as the sanctuary of the best of the best Tongits players in the Philippines, collated and organized by GameZone.

Up for grabs in the 5-day tournament was a staggering 10 million prize pool alongside the chance of conquering the Tongits trophy and being crowned as the ultimate GTCC winner.

How the GTCC transpired

Before the formal GTCC: Summer Showdown competition, the players are selected through the weekly leaderboard from April 25 to May 16 of the Tongits Free Multi-Table Tournament. The Tongits MTT is an online tournament of GameZone, which is available every day with various prizes depending on the category.

Day 1 served as the registration and opening ceremony of the tournament. But the next day served as the start of the tongits battle, with 93 players going into the knockout round to determine the 84 names that will advance into the promotional round on Day 3.

In this stage of competition, GameZone online introduced a twist by establishing an upper and lower bracket. Players were ranked depending on the score they had attained from the previous round. After the dissection, the 84 players will go against each other to identify the nine individuals who will be promoted to the Semifinals round.

The Final Day provides the supreme display of action with the Semis and Finals of the GTCC. From the previously remaining 9 players, only 3 players will secure their spot in the finale and will clash for the last spot in contention for the grand prize of 5 million pesos.

The top 3 of the GTCC and prizes

With the initial list of 93 names, after countless rounds of the crop, only 3 remained to become a GTCC legend.

These are Benigno De Guzman Casayuran (62), Ryan Dacalos (38), and Cesha Myed Tupas (37). They came from different origins, but what they have in common is the Tongits’ skills, motivation, and perseverance to crush their foe.

After the final round, Benigno claimed the throne of the GTCC champion and claimed the grand prize of 5 million pesos. Meanwhile, Ryan Dacalos settled with 1 million as the 1st place or runner-up. Closing in the top 3 is Cesha, who became 488,000 richer after clobbering in as the 2nd runner-up.

GameZone offering aside from GTCC

Besides GTCC, GameZone specializes in adapting popular card games, focusing primarily on Tongits, Pusoy, and Pusoy Dos. Each game offers unique variations to cater to different player preferences and skill levels.

Tongits Variations

Tongits Plus: This version follows traditional rules using a 52-card deck. It features four tiers with varying fees: middle (10), senior (20), superior (50), and master (200), allowing players to choose based on their skill level.

Tongits Joker: This variant introduces jokers to the standard deck, offering new winning strategies. It has a simplified three-level system: newbie (1), primary (5), and middle (10).

Tongits Quick: A condensed version ideal for quick sessions, it uses a 36-card deck (excluding 10s and face cards) plus jokers. Like Tongits Joker, it has three levels: newbie (1), primary (5), and middle (10).

Super Tongits: An innovative blend of Tongits and slot games, combining elements of Super Ace and traditional Tongits.

Pusoy Variations

Pusoy Plus: This game follows traditional Pusoy rules for 2-4 players. Each player receives 13 cards to arrange into three hands of varying strengths: front, middle, and back. The challenge lies in ensuring the backhand is at least as strong as the middle hand, which should be equal to or stronger than the front hand. Visual cues assist players, and special combinations can earn bonus points.

Pusoy Swap: This variant introduces a 30-second swapping phase at the beginning of each round, allowing players to exchange up to three cards. This adds an element of chance and quick decision-making to the game. Players can observe their opponents’ actions and choose to keep their original hand if desired.

Pusoy Dos

GameZone’s Pusoy Dos adheres to time-honored rules, accommodating 2-4 players. Each player receives 13 cards per round. The game centers on discarding cards or combinations based on their relative values, with the lowest-value cardholder making the first move.

Before dealing, players contribute twice the agreed-upon bet to a central pot. As the game progresses, a crown icon appears above the avatar of the round winners. If a player wins two consecutive rounds, they claim the entire pot.

These adaptations of classic card games demonstrate GameZone’s commitment to providing diverse and engaging gaming experiences. By offering various difficulty levels, unique twists on traditional rules, and innovative game mechanics, GameZone caters to a wide range of players with different preferences and time constraints. The incorporation of visual cues and special features, such as the crown icon in Pusoy Dos, adds excitement and clarity to the gaming experience.

GameZone’s portfolio showcases its ability to preserve the essence of beloved card games while introducing fresh elements to enhance gameplay. Whether players are looking for quick sessions, traditional experiences, or innovative twists, GameZone’s offerings provide something for everyone in the world of online card gaming.

Notes for GameZone players

Even though GameZone is part of the online casino industry, the platform discourages the use of its games and services as a way to earn money. Game Zone online games does not guarantee winning and promotes responsible casino practices and safe play among its users.

Additionally, GameZone casino, alongside its partner brands, employs spending limits. Once a player goes over and beyond their set limit, an alert will pop up on their device to inform them of spending.

Moreover, the platform also introduced responsible casino practices ambassadors. They were former Tongits Champions Cup winners who were involved in online casinos. They experience various circumstances in the industry that inspire players and mirror their status.

GameZone’s proactive approach to player protection goes beyond mere compliance with regulations. By adopting these strategies, the company showcases its dedication to fostering a responsible gaming environment. This initiative serves multiple purposes: it safeguards at-risk players, promotes a more ethical and sustainable casino industry, elevates GameZone’s standing in the market, and appeals to customers who prioritize a secure and mindful gambling experience.
